In female/immature plumage Linnets and Twites can look very similar, but Twite tend to be more orangy around the face. A more obvious feature of Twite a this time of year (if the photos were taken recently) is that Twite have an obviously yellow bill from late autumn until at least late winter. |

| | | Re: wee brown id They were seen today near the Cathkin Braes, Glasgow. I saw linnets in the same field in summer but they were much redder in appearance.
I was hoping they were twite as I've never seen them before but maybe not! |

It's only the male Linnets that are red (far brighter when breeding). There is a male on the left of the group photo of Linnets above. |
