| | | Birdsong recording from Dalby Forest I recorded some birdsong from the edge of Dalby Forest one misty morning in September.
Unfortunately I can't get the sounds to play anywhere on the WAB website, so here's a link if you fancy a listen. Dalby birdsong 11 09 10

There's quite a bit of stuff going on as well as the robin, including at one point a huge bull bellowing from a field some distance away. I just wanted to capture the whole soundworld really.

| | | Re: Birdsong recording from Dalby Forest That's really lovely... a beautiful soundscape.
As well as the robin's gorgeous atmospheric singing there's two crows contact calling, wren alarm calling (the rattling) which becomes two birds alarm calling. Obviously something's upset them and a great spotted woodpecker with a 'chip' call (01:10). Goldcrests with seeep seeep call (might be a treecreeper - they have a similar contact call). Then a wood pigeon comes in and a robin's alarm call can be heard (the tic tic itc call).
At 4:36 lots of swallow alarm calls.
Then coal tit calls.(05:50 and just before). Then a chaffinch call (06:08) - some early on too but this one is clearest.
At least 2 if not 3 territorial robins.
wonderful... I'd so much rather be there than here! More of these please!

| | | Re: Birdsong recording from Dalby Forest Hey, thanks for the positive comments everyone.
Jake, I recorded it using a Zoom H4 with a home made windshield. I just placed it under some trees then went away and left it there for half an hour or so recording.
Gill, thanks so much for the comprehensive breakdown of the different birds. I'm going to use the info on my blogs OUT ON YE! and taphonomy if that's OK with you?
You can listen to a recording of pheasants calling in Mulgrave Woods near Whitby on my free VALENTINE EP if you fancy it. It was recorded on Valentine's Day this year as night was falling. |

| | | Re: Birdsong recording from Dalby Forest Of course that's fine! and I will listen to your other stuff when I get home (work computer says no)
When I got married, the 'aisle' I walked down was very short, too short for any piece of music so we used the Brecklands Dawn Chorus by Andrew Flintham for my arrival and it was really lovely. I'm a big fan of wildlife sound recording. There's a Tom Middleton track I like too with a redstart song in it, if I can track it down I'll point it out to yoou.
