| | | Sparrows and bird boxes Now that the leaves are falling or fallen off the trees I can see where all the old birds nests are. The large shrub which the House Sparrows use has three nests in it and as far as I know they were all successful in raising their young this year.
would it then be worth putting up any nest boxes in or near this shrub, or is it best to leave alone and concentrate on other birds? I thought the sparrows may use boxes for shelter in the Winter ?In which case I could put some below their nesting site.Any ideas? |

| | | Re: Sparrows and bird boxes I thought they were house sparrows because they fly around in a group of nine to fifteen birds, the shrub is quite dense in the Summer. |

| | | Re: Sparrows and bird boxes House sparrows nest in shrubs as well. It would be good to put a sparrow terrace up maybe on a building or on a tree yes, lots of close single nest boxes also work for sparrows. I would avoid placing them in locations which can be naturally used for nesting. |

They re-use ones in cracks each year, but add additional material to them, they sometimes do the same in bushes. |

| | | Re: Sparrows and bird boxes Right I will put up some boxes on the cool side of the house which is near the shrub, and I will take a very close look at the Sparrows to see if I can work out which type they are as their habits seem to be the same. |
