| | | A long wait but worth it. A couple of years ago I used to see a Little Owl sitting on the corner of one of the farm buildings a few times a week.
After an afternoon in my workshop I had made him a nice comfy box which I fixed to the corner of one of the buildings.
I never saw him again after that.
This spring the box was used by the Starlings but no sign of the owl.
This morning, nearly two years later I was thrilled to see the owl sat on the front of the box enjoying the warm sunshine.
Hope he stays.
And to top that, both the Barn Owls were out hunting.
THis one landed on the corner of the barn and allowed me a few pics.
Aren;t the beautiful. |

| | | Re: A long wait but worth it. Nice shots of both and well done for providing a box! Lining it with bark shavings or such like will make it even more of a desirable nesting box. (They apparently don't like bare wood) Hopefully, it will use it to roost in in the meantime.
Would be worth reporting the Little Owl if it uses to the box for nesting to the BTO
Perhaps you could make a Barn Owl box too as you seem to be so handy with the woodwork! Loads of guidance here: http://www.bto.org/notices/nestbox.pdf |

| | | Re: A long wait but worth it. A small amount of garden peat (without any additives) can be a good base to the nest box too. The birds on the farms ive visited this year seem to like it. |

| | | Re: A long wait but worth it. Thanks all, they really are great birds, I love my owls.
I normally put some wood shavings inside the boxes before I put them up, perfect for owl boxes.
If this little chap stays I will keep you all up to date as things happen. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
