| | | Re: eggshell - possible to I.D ? If the egg was found recently the only birds that may be breeding are pigeons, more likely feral pigeons, unless it is a domestic chicken or similar .It is hard to tell the egg size from the photo.Pigeon eggs are white, again its hard to tell if this egg is white or fawn in colour. |

| | | Re: eggshell - possible to I.D ? I agree it looks like a pheasant fudgey,i discounted pheasant because they do not normally breed in winter as far as i am aware.May/june being the normal nesting period.I realise it may not be a recent photo though. |

Its been predated by a mammal too, you can see the two puncture marks from the canines on the shell. |

| | Re: eggshell - possible to I.D ? sorry I should have said the approx. size... it was a fair bit smaller than a chicken egg.
And again I should have put when I took the picture... Was nearer summer time so I think pheasant would make sense. The area where I took the pic is covered in Pheasants aswell.
Marvellous
Thanks

That raggedy yet quite small entry hole looks very familiar. And i don't think any mammal would have canines that big but that close together - looks more like hammering bill marks.
It may have been cached by a crow a few months ago, and eaten now. They do hide eggs away, as do foxes. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
