| | | Re: maplin night vision cctv cameras Hi Gary,
I've been using one from Maplins at the Badger feeding station in my garden for about 3 weeks now and it's great.
The model I got is the Swann Pro 600 - full colour in daylight and automatically switches to infra-red B&W at night - it has a night vision range of 20m and comes with 18m of cable (I had to buy a 30m extension) at a price of £79.99. Very good value in my opinion.
Gotta go now - the wife's just shouted "the Badgers are here"

Now that sounds more like it,interesting, can you pls tell me,on the box it says 20m night vision, what in real life does it do,will you get 20m in total darkness,or is the realistic distance much shorter?
Also what tv do you have it on,is it high def?If so what the image like on a high def tv?
Thanks for your info, just what i am looking for.
If you get back in time,i may while off today go get one.
cheers Gary |

In answer to your questions -
Viewing distance - mine is set up to cover an area of ground extending to only about 10 metres from the camera and with a fence behind. It certainly gives full and clear coverage of that area in total darkness but I'm afraid I haven't tested its capabilities beyond that distance. However, if you're looking for greater distance/coverage, I seem to recall that the Maplins range included one with a claimed night vision distance of 35 metres.
TV - ours is connected to a small flat screen (but non-HD) TV in our garden room and gives very clear daytime (in full colour) and nightime (in infra-red black and white) images. Many of our friends, relatives and neighbours have been to watch the Badgers on it and have been very impressed with the results.
Go for it Gary - I'm sure you won't be disappointed (and it certainly beats watching East Enders )
