| | | Re: more disgrace on britians shooters I think you're wrong to tar the group of "britians shooters" with the same brush.
From the survey results there appears to be a good number of duck shooters who use lead contrary to the ban and there are those who respect the legislation, who do not use lead at all and do give a toss for all wildlife. |

there is no safe exposure limit for lead.
which also means they couldn't give a toss about you either. eating lead poisoned waterfowl will give you a dose of lead also |

also the chances of getting lead posioning from a duck shot with a lead shot are minimal - you would have to ingest the lead shot yourself and you'd have to be pretty stupid to do that. Virtually all bullets and most airgun pellets are also made from lead so the risk is no higher than when eating a wild shot deer or rabbit.
The issue is with ducks , swans, and geese - all of which ingest gravel to help with their food processing in the crop - ingesting leadshot and thus getting lead posioning
Also this paragraph Quote: |
some shooting organisations working hard to persuade members of the shooting community to address the problem including promoting information about the regulations and the alternative range of shot types available.
| shows that not all shooters are the same - why tar the organisations working hard to address the problem with the same brush as those who dont comply ?

| | | Re: more disgrace on britians shooters There's not much of an arguement about lead poisoning from birds shot with lead as all pheasants purchased from game dealers and everywhere else have been shot with lead shot and have been for over a hundred years. At a guess there must be fifty pheasants (probably more) shot with lead and sold to the public to every duck shot with whatever metallic substance.
I am well aware that there are those shooters who still shoot with lead, my point was that it is wrong group all shooters as lead users. |
