| | | Ringed Eagle Owl Today a BTO Ringed Eagle Owl was handed into a wildlife charity I help at, will this be a wild one or a Falconers escaped bird?
It was handed in by the SSPCA, in Dumfries and Galloway, if that helps. |

| | | Re: Ringed Eagle Owl A BTO ring would suggest its been ringed in the wild. I dont think that captive birds use the same rings, but dont quote me on that. |

| | | Re: Ringed Eagle Owl If it is a plain metal ring and says something like Nat Museum London SW7 (or similar) then it is a BTO ring. Some of the larger rings also have an email address. There will also be a serial number of letters and numbers, which is the important bit.
This would be the 3rd recovery of a bird ringed in the wild, as far as I know. Two others from Yorkshire were found dead over 100 km away. The BTO will bevery keen to hear of it.
Be aware that others rings are used by falconers, some of which are metal too. |

| | | Re: Ringed Eagle Owl There is some good information on reporting recovered rings on Euring home and it explains the different schemes. It works for me, even for homing pigeon rings. |

| | | Re: Ringed Eagle Owl Thanks all, I'm not sure what the ring says, as I've not actually seen it, but I was told it was BTO ringed, so it might not be.
I'm going in next week and will ask and see if it has been reported, if not I'll follow your links.
Thanks again |
