Seems a few people on here have seen one laterly,i wonder where they were filming them?
Undisclosed location.

| | | Re: the one show tonight eagle owls Yes i saw it.It was an interesting little insight into the eagle owl in England. At the end they stated the did not think the eagle owl had affected the hen harrier as 18 harrier chicks were raised, and i think that was from half a dozen pairs, although there was evidence of an owl made a harrier desert a nest.Sounds a bit of a high success rate that though 18 chicks from 6 nests. That would mean an average of 3 chicks per pair.A very good success rate from a bird persecuted from all angles. |

| | | Re: the one show tonight eagle owls The filming looked to be around the Dunsop Bridge area in the Trough of Bowland, where they have bred for a few years now (and is no big secret. having been featured in all the local papers).
The references to Hen Harriers would seem to reinforce this, as it's also no secret that this is a major breeding area for the species.
Of course I could be wrong! |

Of course I could be wrong! | I would agree with you on that, the site is very close to where we had a house. I feel that these things are at a level where they can be eradicated, and I feel a very serious assessment should be made as to their likely impact on the wildlife in a very small country with few wild places. Please note that I am not advocating the eradication of them, but I do feel a decision should be made at a time when they can be dealt with if neccesary, rather than find later that they are a catastrophe but they are too wide-spread to be dealt with.

| | | Re: the one show tonight eagle owls Having a captive bred eagle owl for the last 13 years which i hand reared, i am of a slightly biased opinion .I know they are really superb birds, everyone who sees my bird are amazed at its size ,beautiful feather pattern and most of all its eyes, but i also realise they are a major predator and therefore could upset the food chain or threaten our already rare moorland birds.I would not like to have to make that decision.I wonder how or if they would co exist with the Scottish eagles, golden and white tailed. |

| | | Re: the one show tonight eagle owls I blame some rich fools getting them becauase they were impressed with them because of ' Harry Potter '. Then they realised the hard way how difficult and expensive they would be to keep properly. So they then simply let them go (?) |

| | | Re: the one show tonight eagle owls Oh no not again! Just over a week I am 99.9999% I saw one near the very area you suspect this show to have been filmed. I took some pix from a distance and wrote about my experience here on the forum. Well the heated discussion raged for days!! I only asked if the jury was still out regarding them..... No doubt this will start it up all over again.
Wish I'd seen the show though it would have been interesting. I work in a school and last week was half term so I got out walking every day and was lucky enough to see my first hen harrier- a male. Then as I say a few days later we saw and eagle owl! The thread was started about a week or so ago and was called "eagle owl sighting" if you are interested in reading just how sensitive a subject this is. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
