Hawfinch

Any one know where I would have a good chance of seeing hawfinch, in the north Herts area please. the exact spot would be very helpful. Thanks.

I just did a search for you for the last 10 years and Benington and Broxbourne seem to have some in the winter - if you PM an e-mail address I may be able to send the screenshots to you.

Failing that try Bird News | Herts | goingbirding.co.uk which might have some links of use.

Thank you so much Rob,Benington sounds good, not too far, and thank you too Dude, I will keep a eye out on the herts bird club page. The last one I saw was in Santon Downhamin in the church yard, I could have done with my scope, is this often the case with hawfinch?.

I've not seen any myself unfortunately, but I know people who have seen them over Black Park in Slough and have said they've been able to get good views just with bins.

Just a note, the Benington sightings were some years ago and they have not been seen since, Broxbourne woods are a more likely source but still not reliable. This is unfortunately a very scarce bird in Herts.

I have been to Broxbourne woods before Robin, I was not too happy about the safety of the car there, thank you anyway.
