| | | Unusual Cormorant? I saw this lone cormorant at a pond in Lewes, East Sussex today. Unfortunately I didn't have my good camera with me, but I tried to get as good a photo as I could.
All the comorants I've seen have been completely black, so I was wondering if it's unusual to see one with so much white? I also looked online, and it looks quite a lot like some other species then the ones I see here. Any idea if it's a different species, or just an unusually marked one? |

It's quite normal. It's an immature bird - they have varying amounts of white - the one above was taken yesterday (also in East Sussex!) |

Probably explains why I was able to get so close. Young birds always seem to be less bothered by me. |

| | | Re: Unusual Cormorant? Later on in spring you may also see cormorants with white patches on their thighs which is a plumage they develop for the breeding season. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
