| | Re: Greylag Juvenile... ? Not sure what made you think juv Greylag? It isn't a goose + not strictly a hybrid; it's a male domestic type Mallard; referred by some as "manky Mallards". |

Originally Posted by faz whats makes a manky mallard two different species of mallard in which case a hybrid | If you cross a doberman with a jack russell, you'll get a doberman x russell cross, they are still both domestic dogs and still the same species: Canis lupus familiaris
If you cross breed a wild Mallard with a 'domestic' Mallard, you'll get a manky (cross bred duck) but they are both Mallards
Order - Anseriformes
Sub-family - Anatinae
Genus - Anas
Species - platyrhynchos (this is a mallard)
The only species of domestic duck not derived from wild Mallard is Muscovy all other domestic ducks are Anas platyrhynchos (ie. the same species)
HYBRID = Cross species and does not apply to cross bred Mallards (or dogs!)
Have a read through this “Manky Mallards” (domestic, feral, or just plain odd Mallards)
