If that link doesn't work, go onto the BOU website and look up 'species list' and a link to the british checklist is on the next page |

| | | Re: list of british birds? I use this list Species Codes
As it's in alpha order, therefore easier to find the bird! |

Try a rule of thumb where for every twitch you go on, you go to a local wood, park, marsh and do some 'birding.' I think you'll get a lot more out of your twitching. Also, use that 'local patch watching' to get to know the topography of a bird. |

| | | Re: list of british birds? I've never really understood the whole 'ticking' thing, is it a boy thing? A type of hunter gatherer instinct?
I make fieldnotes obviously, including a list of what I have seen at a particular site I need to for my job for the write up as otherwise it's easy to forget the details for a specific site but I have never felt the need to keep a long standing life or garden or 'patch' checklist. I understand the excitement with seeing a new bird but in my own head I already know what I have seen and what I haven't, is that what the list is about? Do other people forget what they've seen or feel satisfaction in seeing it on paper? Is it about having a longer list than others?
Hope I'm not coming across badly here, it's so hard to get tone across in type!! Absolutely criticism here, I'm just curious to understand | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
