Waders ID please?

I would say 1,2 and 5 are Ruff and the other two look a bit like Wood Sandpiper to me although the legs look perhaps a bit long.

The other bird does look a bit 'leggy' for a Wood Sandpiper, I'm pretty sure it's a Lesser Yellowlegs. Wood Sandpiper has a prominent supercilium behind the eye. Also this bird has the right bill for a yellowlegs.

There was a Lesser Yellowlegs at Port Meadow Floods in Oxfordshire recently, and another at Inner Marsh Farm RSPB in Cheshire not all that long ago. Where were these taken?

The pictures were indeed taken today at Port Meadow.

I read about the Lesser Yellowlegs, and I suspected this might be it, but to be honest I'm such an amateur that I initially thought that I was taking pictures of only one type of bird all the time. It was only after I got home that I realised that at least two of them were different

One is a winter Ruff, the other one...

I am quite tempted to agree with Gatekeeper's 'Lesser Yellowlegs', admittedly having never heard of it before in my life!

Is this bird in the Collins guide?

Yes, it's in Collins but here's a few pics of the Oxford bird anyway:

(A Wood Sand has more marked upperparts and a stronger face pattern as well as a thicker and slightly shorter bill)

Oh oh please Sir Picidae was first!!

Damn I had thought of LY and assumed that it wouldn't be anything too exciting. I must confess that when I first saw the thumbnail I thought it was a Greenshank!

Nice one, only ever seen one of those, can't even remember where now, Farlington perhaps.
