Starling roost at Fen Drayton Lakes RSPB reserve

There'a good sized Starling roost (10,000+) at the Fen Drayton Lakes RSPB reserve - between Huntingdon and Cambridge - at the moment.

I've watched and photographed the birds roosting here many times over several years but only rarely does the right combination of a really spectacular sunset and large numbers of swirling birds seem to happen.

Such a combination occurred last Sunday evening and this is one of many images I captured, showing the birds funnelling down into the reedbeds and giving the impression of a genie re-entering a bottle

Have already commented on the picture. I think starlings are wonderful...see my blog piece in the Wild Rhubarb Patch posted almost simultaneously with this thread post.

Would it be in order to attach the picture to my blog? And if so how would I do it?

excellent photo- it puts my local swarm to shame - about 3-4000 birds, but still very impressive. well done jeff

I've no problem with that, subject to you giving me accreditation of course. Just copy the thumbnail code for the image and copy it to your blog
