| | | Help with various bird ID's please
Went to Portsmouth last week and saw lots of birds that are unfamiliar to me. Took a few pics and those that I am not sure of are shown above.
My best guesses are:-
1. Wheatear
2. Godwit??
3. Don't know
4. Rock Pipit
5. Redshank
Any help from you experts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob P. |

Bob P. | hi Bob
1. Correct with Wheatear (Northern 1st W)
2. Correct with Godwit (Black Tailed 1st W)
3. Looks like a Teal sp. probably Eurasian
4. Correct with Rock Pipit
5. Hard to make out the waders behind the Black Headed Gulls but think you have a mixed flock there most being Redshank as you say. |

| | | Re: Help with various bird ID's please Thanks Picidae. Is it possible that your suggestion of Teal could be a Garganey? It seems to have quite a bold eye stripe so I thought it might be.
Again, much appreciated for your input.

What you may be looking at is the primaries which are finely barred on 1w - also note the dark spotted rather plain looking coverts and tertials - typical of juv/1w Blacktailed.
not sure if this link will work! I'll try and find a few more. (yes it did finally!) http://www.tarsiger.com/images/Jukka..._SALO_8573.jpg

| | | Re: Help with various bird ID's please Isn't it great that people on here are so helpful to us newbies .
I try to ID pics of birds on here before then scrolling down to see the answers. That helps me learn more about IDing and the pictures show the habitats particular birds are likely to be found in.
I got the Rock Pipit . | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
