Heron on water

Hi all,

my first post.

Is a heron landing in deep water a common sight?
I witnessed this a few weeks ago.
The bird was distant so I did not get a photo that I would put on here!

seems be a more common site these days bird twichers love them fish pond owners not so much

I have seen them in water up to their bottoms so that they looked like Ducks!
When I first netted my pond I was told they "always" walk in and netted accordingly. They don't! the darn thing just landed, wings spread parachute-like in the unprotected deep water centre of my pond.

Will try to dig out some sort of pic. water depth was at least 2M.
I live in hope that my 2.4x1.8M pond is safe.
I am seriously considering converting to a wildlife pond,
sticklebacks not goldfish and no pump/filtration. Then I can get rid of the ugly and unnatural protection.
My worst enemy here is felix domesticus and I still need to protect frogs in spring,

Hopefully I have posted your picture on here for you.

I have never seen a heron in such deep water before.

I'd met a young lad who said he'd seen a heron land on water,
telling him that I thought it unlikely, we saw it happen 15 mins later.
Location was Stanborough lakes, Welwyn G. C.
