| | | Bird ID please Hello
This bird brained itself on my windows with a loud bang this morning. Stood very still for half an hour, then flew off. I'm not very up on birds, so would appreciate an ID please? http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b...nown_bird1.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b...nown_bird2.jpg
As a side note, I'm getting very distressed with how many birds have been killed flying into my windows this year. I live fairly deep in the countryside, and my house on its south side has floor to ceiling glass, which in combination with north-facing sloping skylights must make it look, from the birds' perspective, as if there is a clear flight path right through my living room. I have tried those reflector things you stick on the windows, and I've tried having the curtains drawn much more than I'd like, and leaving windows open much more than I'd like. Still, over the summer I was averaging one death every other day, including about 5 yellowhammers. Don't know what to do.

| | | Re: Bird ID please Definitely a Jay as has been said. We've lost a lot of birds this year to window collisons. No idea why, last year it was fine this year loads. window stickers, pulled curtains, chime bars sometimes help but are not guarantees I'm afraid.

Yes it is very strange, I've lived here for 12 years, and suddenly just this year the bird-window collisions are up five-fold, at least. |
