| | | Redwing flock. Saw a flock of 15 or so redwing today. What made me look up was the high pitched calls between them. Good to see them again, there seems to be plenty of hawthorn berries for them at the moment. Anyone else spotted redwing on the move?

| | | Re: Redwing flock. My friend Stella saw lots at the weekend (peterborought way) but I haven't seen any yet myself- I always notice the calls first for both redwing and fieldfare - really distinctive once you have your ear in. I quite like that you can hear them calling way overhead in the dead of night as they whizz to their winter destination.
here's hoping his winter isn't as hard on them.

| | | Re: Redwing flock. We've had a couple of threads on this subject already which didn't really stick in my mind until yesterday when I saw one probably two by my house in Southampton. I never remember seeing them this early. Looking at other info there seems to be something of an influx but then I guess with predominant easterlies of late that may be obvious. |

| | | Re: Redwing flock. Around a dozen Redwing and 15 Fieldfare in the Rowans just outside my garden this morning. I've seen them in ones or twos since the weekend.

| | | Re: Redwing flock. Fieldfares not Redwings this very morning when my attention was drawn upward due to a high skein of geese flying southward. Forty or so Fieldfares crossed my line of sight from east to west at a much lower altitude. |

| | | Re: Redwing flock. There was a large movement north on Monday here in south Hants (over 2000 early morning at one watchpoint) which I missed!
I saw quite a few Redwings in a New Forest enclosure yesterday along with plenty of Siskins and at least four Crossbills so things are moving. |
