| | | Birding List I keep five lists - UK lifers, UK annual sightings, in the garden since we moved in, in the garden annual and Hook with Warsash (which I have only recently been visiting).
My question is about the UK life list. Do the top birders include the Republic of Ireland? County Cork gets some real rarities but if I were to pitch up and tick off House Crow for example surely that's not a UK lifer list item - or do the top birders e.g. Bryan Bland, Lee Evans etc have a UK and a GB+R O Ireland list?
Thanks

| | | Re: Birding List The official UK list doesn't include Republic of Ireland, but each individual can put what they like on their own list.
Though I record everything I see I'm not into the numbers game that seems to obsess so many. About 15 years or so back I went with a couple of friends twitching most weekends + one would be like "I'm on 398 now"- the new number becoming more important than the bird. I just don't get that numbers game-a competion to try + get one up on others. |

I would have liked to see the 263 regulars from the Shell Guide (as mentioned on one of my earlier threads) and I would like to surpass 400 but have 57 to go so unlikely unless I really put some effort in but I'm too lazy.
I don't think there's anything wrong with numbers nor not doing numbers - each to their own I guess.

Rob S | "UK" is a political/administrative area which will include the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island along with the tax havens. Clearly doesn't include the Republic of Ireland.
Scientific lists use "British Isles", a biogeograhical definition, which includes the whole of Ireland but does not include the Channel Islands |

I shall continue my UK- NI list then!

I think you need to call yourself either 'Sparrowhawk Perv' or 'Not Sad Enough'.
The collective wit on here can decide for you!
