| | | Re: Bird sounds I wonder if you have seen folks using a digital recorder. A report I read mentioned 'unscrupulous' twitchers using such things to attract certain birds closer to make viewing easier. Why 'unscrupulous' I have no idea. I see no harm in using such a device. The birds are only deceived for a few minutes. Perhaps you could load your bird songs into a mobile too.
After all, a bird in the hand...

| | | Re: Bird sounds Hi,
Have you got a modern internet phone like a Windows Mobile Phone, iPhone or Android phone? Or even a Dell Streak or a small netbook? Netbooks are larger, but one of the cheaper options. No CD drive often so you need a USB stick or similar to get the sounds from your PC to the device. Netbooks have other uses too.
Without a phone/netbook, the very cheapest option for sound/song only, might be an mp3 player. The file names should be bird names, of course, not numbers. I'm thinking about an iPod or something like that.

| | | Re: Bird sounds I've loaded a few species calls onto my mobile phone but only for reference and "demo" purposes when I'm on voluntary Information Assistant duties.
Using recorded calls to stimulate reactions from wild birds is not something I'd encourage. Birds in their natural habitat lead challenging lives always trying to find food or shelter while keeping a lookout for predators. Having to repel a territorial challenge that isn't actually real is an energy wasting distraction they can do without. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
