| | | does anyone have as many sparrows as me... I am always telling people how many sparrows we have visit our garden on a daily basis (infact they hang out all day!).
I just wanted to boast that I counted over 45 yesterday. All on the hedge round the feeder at the same time.
Does anyone else have as many as this? We have a tiny garden about 8 foot!

| GIT!!!!
I have only seen a House Sparrow once in 12 years here at the Rob S LNR despite seeing 54 other species and also, to add insult to injury, knowing that 300m away there is a nice little colony.
Lucky you!

| | | Re: does anyone have as many sparrows as me... I used to get 30-40 at any one time, especially in the winter, but this summer hardly saw any in the garden, though I'm now getting 10 or so again. |

| | | Re: does anyone have as many sparrows as me... Lots here too....maybe around 60+ now. Bit hard to count when they are flitting between my two neighbours gardens! They don't tend to stop in mine as I have no cover for them round the back.
My neighbour one one side has a hedge all the way around her smallish back garden and a tree in one corner. She feeds them every day and over the last few years, the host size has grown. They did really well with breeding again this year.
My neighbour on the other side feeds them too and has her feeders in a large Berberis to protect them from the Sprawk that visits occasionally!
So...they are well looked after here!
I do find that many folk on our small estate take them for granted though - as there are generally a lot around here. They don't see why I'm so chuffed that they are doing so well!
Tracey

| | | Re: does anyone have as many sparrows as me... I've got quite a few here, probably about 30 to 40 but they're increasing every year.
I just wish they didn't eat so much. |

| | | Re: does anyone have as many sparrows as me... must admit i get an amazing amount of sparrows in on the fat balls, feeders, but they have been quiet over the past couple of days as the resident sparrowhawk as scared them, rossy. |

| | | Re: does anyone have as many sparrows as me... That's 'house sparrows'?
That's great - where are you? Thehouse sparrow has virtually disappeared from its old urban haunts but seems to hang on in others. Information on habitat &c would be appreciated by recorders - and the rest of us!
I've not seen one locally for three or four years! |

| | | Re: does anyone have as many sparrows as me... My neighbour and I regularly have 60 + at our feeders. One decided to come into the house yesterday and my grandaughter screamed (she is only 1 year old). She loves to watch them through the window but was rather upset when one came in. |
