| | | Re: does anyone have as many sparrows as me... hello paul mabbot i live in rochdale , and i think one of the main reasons that house sparrows do well round here is , a lot of the houses are decades old , so the sparrows have plenty of places to nest, in newly built houses they dont have, so that might be one of the reasons, rossy. |

| | | Re: does anyone have as many sparrows as me... Wow, lots of sparrows everywhere. It seems people have a massive amount or none at all.
Someone asked where I am, I'm in between Oxford and Newbury.
They do cost a lot to feed - they get through a feeder a day, and that is rationed, I can't afford to feed them any more than that!
Our next door neigbour has a feeder too, which is just a few foot away on the other side of the hedge, but they seem to prefer mine, not that I'm in competition with her

| | | Re: does anyone have as many sparrows as me... Plenty in Glasgow. In fact the only birds that ever come to my feeders are house sparrows, starlings, jackdaws, magpies, woodies, feral pigeons and the odd robin or chaffinch. I think it's because I have a tiny garden that's kind of enclosed which makes most birds sort of nervous, a lot of cats about too. |

| | | Re: does anyone have as many sparrows as me... I like watching the Sparrows and regularly get between 20-30 in my garden.
They like to have a bit of rest on here late in the afternoon...

I just wanted to boast that I counted over 45 yesterday. All on the hedge round the feeder at the same time.
Does anyone else have as many as this? We have a tiny garden about 8 foot!
K | Hi animalb, they're great to watch aren't they, real characters all squabbling away, especially when bathing . Which type of sparrows are they, house or tree?

I've not seen one locally for three or four years! | Well I'm certainly not in an urban area, probably half a mile to the nearest house in any direction. Didn't have any for the first two years of living here and then they found me and have increased every year. In this neck of the woods they do seem to be very localised. On my travels I know exactly where they will be and it will be in a very small area for each "group/flock".
I also have tree sparrows but not in such high numbers. However they are also increasing year by year and I had three, possibly four, nest boxes occupied by them this year. I must get them cleaned out and sterilised in the next few days when hopefully I'll be able to tell if the fourth box was used by them or not.
I do pass my findings onto the relevant people. |

Come Spring they pair-up and start House-Hunting. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
