| | | Strange buzzard? I saw this earlier this afternoon flying over the South Downs. My initial thought was 'buzzard' but it doesn't look quite like most of the buzzards I see round here, so I'm having doubts though I can't think what else it might be.
Any ideas/suggestions appreciated. It was flying solo, and simply crossed the valley. |

| | | Re: Strange buzzard? Yes, it's a Male Marsh Harrier (immature) and looks to be in it's 2cy (late autumn-3cy summer) plumage. Nice pic.

| | | Re: Strange buzzard? Hurrumph!!!!!
The site went crazy when I tried to post something so this is old now but at the time it was the second reply. I try to identify the birds before I look at the replies and when I saw this I thought 'Marsh Harrier' - so you were right it was an odd Buzzard!
Nice one!

| | | Re: Strange buzzard? Picidae/Rob, thanks both for the confirmation. I really wasn't expecting to see a marsh harrier round here, but I guess there's a lot of movement at this time of year. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
