Hello all..
Got a young swan on one of my local patches, seems to have a case of 'angel wing'. The parents and other 3 young 'uns have moved on from the area, leaving just the one on its own. It can manage about 20 yards of flight before giving up. The female swan has been back a couple of times but now seems to have moved on permanently.
It's not a big pond, usually freezes over completely in the winter. I don't rate the swan's chances of survival.
Usually, although sometimes with difficulty, I believe it best to let nature take its course but this old angel wing thing, it's not really 'natural'..is it? We are talking about a fairly popular place for 'feeding the ducks' so a lot of bread is given to the wildfowl residing therein
Google searches for swan rescue places round my way are not promising, RSPCA 'not interested'; another bloke who goes to the pond has already tried them to no avail..
Any suggestions..
Cheers. Nik.
