| | | New garden visitors Living in an urban area we get our fair share if birds. I recently put up a niger feeder and after waiting for 4 weeks we eventually began seeing a pair of Goldfinches. One morning they brought six fledglings to the feeder which was a brilliant sight. Our new visitor which loves the black sunflower seeds is a Coaltit which i have seen several times now. Just goes to show that with patience the birds you consider as woodland birds eventually find the food. Craig |

| | | Re: New garden visitors Patience is definitely a virtue. We had a similar experience with just a couple of Goldfinches appearing initially, I recently counted 15 at one sitting!!!
Coal tit also appeared and a couple of years ago (not seen since) a blackcap |

| | | Re: New garden visitors I remember years ago trying to coax the handful of goldfinches, that were very occasionally in my area, into my garden. A stunted sunflower had grown from the seed I fed the other birds, and first 1 then 2 goldfinches came to feed on it. Seeing an opportunity, I ordered a nijer seed feeder and by the end of that winter 6 goldfinches were using it. The next year 20 visited the garden, so I purchased another feeder. The last few winters I have had 60+ goldfinches using 6 feeders, with a record 83 in the garden during that bad cold spell. This year I already have 35+ each day and will be using 8 feeders and a garage full of seed! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
