| | | Wryneck My son in Clapham, North Yorkshire, watched a wryneck quite closely yesterday morning in the grounds of a large private house. It's rather funny because he spent a few days in Bridlington and Filey recently when a report of a wryneck there reached him. Unfortunately, he could no locate it because of the very strong winds. So, now he's back home, the bird seems to have followed him (only joking)! It's his first sighting of a wryneck in the Clapham area in about 15 years there. |

| | | Re: Wryneck There was certainly a well watched bird at Wanstead Flats in the London area for almost 2 weeks recently as welll as a couple of more transitory birds.

Mick .. | There's certainly the occasional pair in Scotland + of course in that part of the world more likely to be overlooked as fewer recorders. |

| | | Re: Wryneck According to Birding World which dropped through my door today, over 200 were reported in September. I didn't catch up with any although I have seen a few. Can't remember where I heard it but I think they do still breed but 'hush hush'.
They are certainly a bird worth finding but you must get a good view so that you can really enjoy the plumage - quite stunning in good light and close by.
One of my favs I think!
