A Whimbrel which was ringed 24 years ago in Fetlar in the Shetlands has been found to be still breeding in the area. A quite remarkable find!

this is one of the reasons , why birds are ringed ,and data can be collected, but what a nice story and glad the old birds still breeding, rossy. |

Hi Rossy,
It's especially nice when you compare this to some of the other horror stories that we read now and again with regards to 'birds of prey etc.

hi john d, and yes read again today in the rochdale observer, chap who writes the nature pages, that a sea eagle had been shot, to which had been fitted with a transmitter to monitor it on its migration, alas some moron had other ideas, he listed the stats of bop, and its really sad that some folk are living in the dark ages, one day hopefully they will be brought to justice, regards rossy.  sorry to put this on but your story gives us something to smile about. | | |
