| | | Barn Owls Yesterday morning around 10am I came across our local Barn Owls both hunting in the meadows behind the farm.
I was lucky to have one land on a fence post only about five metres from me and stay long enough for me to get a few pics.
I went down again about 5pm and found them both out hunting the same fields.
I parked by the post the owl had landed on that morning and within 10 minutes he was back on the post and allowed me a few more shots before moving on.
I guess they must have a nest full of hungry youngsters to feed. |

| | | Re: Barn Owls Brilliant photos. I was lucky enough to have a barn owl swooping by me the other evening whilst I was out shooting, it was lovely to see one so close in the wild as it pretty much swooped past us and acted as if it was showing off for a good 30 seconds.
Just to add, 5 minutes previous to this we saw a tawny owl land on a small tree, it was spooked by us and took flight.
Last of all, I also saw a little owl later in the evening on another permission, this little chap was standing on the grass in the field probably looking for worms as the ground was nice and wet.
Sorry for the hi-jack but my owl filled evening wasn't worthy of it's own thread.
Once again, outstanding photos.

| | | Re: Barn Owls Superb. Thanks.
I was lucky enough early in the year to get as close as you did - an amazing experience and a photo opportunity not to be missed.
A month back I was asked by one of our local RSPB activists to see if any of my snaps gave a clear view of the ring. He had found a dead barn owl and chick in one of the local nestboxes and wanted to check if it was the same bird - a regular on patrol which had not been seen for some time.
The view of the ring was the same on all the snaps and so was inconclusive. It does sadly seem that it was the same bird as it has not been seen in its regular haunts for some months.
Sorry but not trying to hi-jack the thread, either.
Colin

Thanks for yor comment, great birds aren't they.
Its not actually my farm, I'm just lucky enough to have unrestricted access to a number of marsh farms on Sheppey one of which borders Elmley marshes.
If you ever get down to Sheppey, get in touch and I would be pleased to show you around. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
