Evening all, I can imagine it having been discussed before but I was wondering if we should/can create a "stickied" thread about feeding birds in gardens. I've seen it done on other threads (not sure if it was on here though) whereby there was one main initial post that was updated with various bits from later posts, so that readers didnt have to trawl through the whole thread. Not sure if it should be in here or in Wildlife gardening
It could deal with general topics raised here quite often
feeders
- placement in the garden
- type
- feed used/refreshed
- feeders used and placing in the feeder
- cleaning
I mean now that I've been doing this for a fair few weeks I wish i'd known a thing or 2 before I started such as the
mess/germination issue... I like others just assumed that since bread which has no great taste or benefit too them yet gets gobbled up without any waste.... yet mixed bird seed which I assumed was designed for them gets sorted through quite badly,
dried mealworm are at best hmmmmmmmmmm,
niger seed (which supposedly attracts finchs and tits) only seems to occasionally interest the coal tit and is ignored by the blues and greats,
sunflower seed never seems to get left behind,
fat balls (even budget ones during the summer) and suet (blocks/logs/pellets) seems to go down well
dont have things partially below others or the main arches on the metal feeders - appears to be a favourite "dropping" point
Any thoughts?
