| | | Which Geese ? When I was out walking my dog, I had stopped to admire a flock of 30 Yellowhammers perched on the phone wires when I heard some geese. When they were getting closer, I noticed there were hundreds of them .
There was one big group (is it flock or skein ?), followed by a few smaller groups. These were all flying roughly from a south east towards a north west direction. 5 minutes after these passed, another group came from the same direction but then wheeled around, circled a couple of times then flew eastwards towards the coast (if they went in a straight line, they would have reached the coast around North Berwick - Dunbar).
I managed to get a few pictures, if anyone could manage to ID them I'd be very grateful .
There is an area a few miles south of where I live which is a SSSI, and has that status as Pink Footed Geese feed there in their thousands over winter. I was wondering if the geese I saw were Pink Footed or something else. I saw them at around 6.30pm. |

| | | Re: Which Geese ? Look like Pinkfeet to me, with the characteristic small dark heads + no heavy bill as in Greylag. On their way back from Iceland- they do make a fabulous sound. I normally catch up with the large flocks in north Norfolk later in the year. |

I must make an effort to go to "Fala Flow", the nearby SSSI which is only a few miles from here. There can be up to about 2400 Pinkfeet feeding there and its only a few miles from my house . There may be other interesting things to see there too. .
