| | | Seagulls 'harbouring superbugs' Just wondered if anyone has read this article that I picked up of MSN this morning. It is on the main MSN page today. Couldn't see a thread on this yet so thought It may be of some interest. |

Pharmacy Europe Pharmacy Europe - Seagulls "harbouring superbugs"
BBC News web site. BBC News - Seagulls 'may be spreading superbugs'
Though the research is about Yellow Legs carrying the bug I wonder if it could also apply to Herring Gulls as they are the most common gull scavenger at UK Landfill sites.
A rather worrying piece of research.

| | | Re: Seagulls 'harbouring superbugs' This suposed 'news' can be found from a number of media sources (eg. BBC News - Seagulls 'may be spreading superbugs' ), and looks like the usual over hyped rubbish to me.
My immediate reaction on reading the headline was "So what? I'd be surprised if they didn't."
No doubt this will be used as an excuse for some to call for the culling of gulls that are nesting in towns etc., but in reality this sort of 'superbug' is probably spread far more by human carriers. Neither the fact that birds (and all other organisms) can carrier bacteria, or the fact that resistant strains of bacteria exist is news - and putting the two together doesn't make it any more worthy of a story IMO. |

| | | Re: Seagulls 'harbouring superbugs' It all boils down to basic hygiene hand washing ect as super bugs affect the vulnerable and those with open wounds..
This is all hype and like Roy said any old excuse for a cull..
They should stop putting antibiotics in our food.. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
