I remember these from when I was a kid. I think they're East European/Russian/Far East, but have been translated through the USA. Ergo a vulture is a Buzzard.

The buzzard is great. I used to love these things, there was a series made up to look like monstrous household items, like a mop monster and some mutant bacon (seriously).

The RSPB clock used to feature a Great Spotted Cuckoo at the 2 o'clock position. Obviously they've rectified it in recent years, and got the picture and song synchronised.

I also vaguely recall threads from newsgroups long ago discussing bird calls on films (e.g., Tawny Owls in Ireland).

I have one of those clocks, only it's gone very wonky... it worked for a while, but none of the songs matches up with the birds anymore.
