| | | Red-backed Shrikes breed again
A pair of Red-backed Shrikes have successfully fledged three young at a secret location in Devon. First time in 18 years that this species have bred in Britain.

Apparently there has been a considerable increase in the number of breeding pairs in Normandy in recent years, so hopefully more pairs will turn up here to breed again. |

I have it on good authority that at least two pairs have also bred in Wales in recent years but again that's not "in England" of course
As someone who used to see these birds annually at their former breeding grounds in the Brecklands area of East Anglia, I'm delighted that they appear to be re-establishing a presence in the UK
