| | | ID on nest please yes it sounds strange but upon walking the dog this morning i see a bunch of twigs lying underneath a tree , i walked over and found out it was a nest , no eggs or feathers were anywhere to be seen.what also amazed me was the strength of it the twigs layered ontop of each other, making a strong structure .
I was wondering it it could be a wood pigeon or a crow , ( or a squirrell..)
it took the dog home grabbed my camera and went off to take some pics... |

| | | Re: ID on nest please Too small for a crow, not a hawk the droppings would be pure white I would go for a wood pigeon -- Alan |

| | | Re: ID on nest please Looks like a crows nest to me, its very well structured, a pigeon nest is usually a very loose collection of twigs. Although note two pigeon feathers in the photo not that this means anything. |

| | | Re: ID on nest please sorry but thats way to small for a crows nest, plenty of droppings suggest wood pigeon, or collard dove, im more inclined to go wood pigeon ,obviously its been blown down by the recent winds, which is the norm as for it being a crow they build in a safer part of a tree , usually inbetween the forks. rossy. |

| | | Re: ID on nest please Wrong shape for a crow as well they are much more rounded too small for a collard dove, first and second year sparrowhawk nests are usually on the small side, I still say it was a pigeon maybe on top of a hawks nest. Alan. |

| | | Re: ID on nest please Pretty sure it's a Woodpigeon. Only them and Collared Doves are still occupying nests, so the fresh droppings rules out virtually everything else. Wood pigeon nests can sometimes be quite substantial. I found one today with 2 eggs. |

They do take over old crows and magpie nests.
They also nest later than other birds so they can feed their young
on fledglings of other birds |
