salute single magpies ?

While looking through my bird notes from a few years ago I noticed I had wrote about mrs moozy saluting every single magpie she come across and have found myself doing this too. I know superstitions go back centuries and some used to shout devil devil I defy thee, which dates back to the english civil war I think.
It would be intresting to see if anyother wab members have any bird related superstitions or quirks or is it just the moozy household thats bonkers .

a friend always says 'hello Mr Magpie and how's your wife' whenever he sees a lone magpie. This is to avert the danger of 'one for sorrow' by implying there are 'two for joy'

As a child my family and me always used to salute magpies but I haven't done it for a few years (maybe that's were everything went wrong)

I don't think I have any traditions. I'm not really superstitious. But "maggot pies" are something else. If I see one on its own, I'm not happy until I see another. I will actively search for another one.

Although a friend of mine always invites them to 'go elsewhere and breed, you black and white ****'

I always say good morning Mr Magpie and how's your wife. I then have to spit over my shoulder. I've got that sussed by licking my finger and then wiping it on the back of my shoulder.

Not too many magpies round here although they have increased over the last couple of years.

A colleague of mine always salutes a lone magpie. This was the first time I had ever heard of it.

I never have but a colleague always tugged his forelock when seeing a single magpie.

I heard that you have to say "hello, Mr Magpie" three times in a row if you see a lone one.

My girlfriend always salutes a single Magpie and for some really odd reason says "Good afternoon Charlie"...

always salute a magpie if it is alone and say good morning Mr magpie. Odd never found myself having to say good afternoon.
