| | Rising sun country park I hope nobody minds if plug my local inner- city country park I'm of there this afternoon with the kids, so if anyone in the area who has not checked this this place out yet I recomm you have a look and Come and discover fascinating wildlife at the Rising Sun Country Park!
Use one of the two bird hides to observe birds such as: Great crested grebe, little grebe, grey heron, teal, pied wagtails and many many more.
Hadrian pond is a remnant of the ancient Longbenton bog system and is the home to unusual beetles, which indicates its ancient status.
The grasslands have a very distinctive community of animals.
As well as a range of birds, beneath the water scurry large fluctuating populations of short tailed voles.
These animals provide the food for the birds of prey. They include short-eared owls, kestrel and the sparrow hawk.
The wildlife garden is an example of the many ways a garden can attract wildlife to it. The garden is slowly evolving and contains a pond, meadow area, shrubs and a woodland area.
The woods are rich in wildlife. In the summer they are the home to many migrant warblers, whilst in winter flocks of thrushes come to feed on the Whitebeam berries. Both large and small mammals scurry about on the woodland floor.
