| | | Two for ID please The first was taken from the ferry from Scrabster to Stromness and well out to sea. It does not fit the data in my books. The beak shape seems wrong for a diver
The next is an awful shot through the bus window with my 100-400 not extended. What attracted our attention was the black heads of the birds - not really apparent in this snap. They were about starling size. In fact, our guide suggested that they were juvenile starlings. If so, they are quite different to those locally which are pale grey basically

| | | Re: Two for ID please Definitely a Puffin - you lucky beggar, you!  I've never (yet!) seen one in juvenile plumage - he's left the burrow and is on his way out to sea. My favourite birds of all time, Puffins are - and I reckon this is my 1000th post so an appropriate subject for it indeed!
