Well good news then, just wish it was for a longer jail sentence as this guy has been doing this since the eighties! And, for his brother to say 'He didn't realise the severity of the case." Pah!! BBC News - Smuggler jailed for £70k peregrine falcon egg theft
Obviously jail is no deterrent, be back at it soon enough, probably.

I am amazed the lengths this guy was prepared to go to. I suppose that the jail sentence has been carefully considered and I am sure that it will not be fun for him, but when he comes out I do so hope that he is a marked man, though I can see that is probably very expensive.

Not only hatched, but some have been "adopted" onto a wild pair of breeding peregrines to raise as their own, and have now fledged. Feature about it on the One Show earlier this eve. Probably on Iplayer if anyone wants to watch. |

I seem to remember that the er, gentleman was going out to Saudi or similar to sell to an Arab Sheik who wished to stengthen his Falconery bloodline .
Seeing as how officialdom now surely know who the Sheik is - can't we contact his U.K. embassy to express our disgust and ask them for a statement ?
As these Arabian people for which money is literally no object - seeming do not care that they are making other countries fauna pooerer/rarer - shouldn't this be outlawed?
O.K. 'we' caught this man - what's to stop the sheik raising his price - thus enticing more theives to chance their arm? |
