| | | Heron in retreat This Heron was attacked by a Gull today, couldn't believe it, it was an unprovoked attack, and I thought this Heron was King of the park pond! There was an inflight assault on the Heron by the Gull...amazing to see |

| | | Re: Heron in retreat nice pic, its pretty common for birds to mob larger species for a variety of reasons. Gulls seem to be the main culprits, along with corvids. I once saw a group of swallows chase off a kestrel, quite a sight!

I once saw a group of swallows chase off a kestrel, quite a sight! | Our local buzzards are regularly mobbed by crows who live in nearby trees and, in Kintail, I've seen a pair of Golden Eagles giving a Sea Eagle a real hard time for passing through their territory. I've always thought it was either to protect their young or their food supply.
