Kingfisher on carp rod

Thought i would just share this pic taken in July this year, this is the third time in 4 yrs that i have been lucky to get this shot. Two weeks ago down for a 10 day session, one landed but did not hang around long enough, keep trying to be ready though. Am i right in thinking that first light sort of time would be the best time to hope for a sighting?

What a wonderful shot! Great to see a kingfisher, and looking so healthy too - I read they've had a bad year.

To be honest there does not seem to be so many about this year, probably down to the hard winter we had in the Oxford area. But i understand that in other areas of the country they are ok.
