There are several great opportunities in and around Derbyshire that I use regularly. Carsington Reservoir is the first that springs to mind, also a little used haunt which is Wyver Lane in Belper which is owned by the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. Another one that springs to mind are the open moors up in the Peak District which are Beeley Moors, there are some fantastic area's and I'm sure many people will be able to post more to help you. Have a great time whilst you're up here, it's fabulous!

| | | Re: BIRDWATCHING IN DERBYSHIRE help depending on where in derbyshire you are it could be well worth crossing the border to attenborough nature reserve in notts. i'm biased as its my most regularly visited patch, but it is very good and has a good record of birds for this time of year. recently there have been common and green sandpipers, little egrets, hobbys, knot, greenshank, ruff and snipe, as well as other passage migrants and plenty of hirundines and warblers

You are leaving it a bit late for the tops of the moors. I would guess things like Merlin, Goldern Plover etc will be already moving south. Our first Merlin arrive in Norfolk in July. Even things like Wood Warbler, Redstart and Pied Fly are already being located on the east coast so the woods will be quiet. There will still be a few Wheatear knocking around and as per another thread on this group on the tops look out for Red Grouse but make it a Sunday thern you are not likely to encounter guns!
Enjoy wherever you go.
