| | | Is this a Marsh Warbler? I know they are difficult to Id. as they are very similar to the Reed Warbler and that they are mostly based in the South of England and Im based in the North West.
However this looks a lot more like a Marsh than a Read. Also my dad has one of those apps on his iPhone which shows pics, drawings and songs of different birds, and the bird's song was exactly like the marsh.
Anyway I have added some unedited (but slightly cropped) pictures of the bird so sorry about the quality and size. All the pictures have some sort of plant in the way so I added as many good pictures as possible to get a good view of it.
What do you think? Is this a Marsh Warbler?

| | | Re: Is this a Marsh Warbler? Looks like one of this years young Reed Warblers to me.
Reed/Marsh Warbler are very similar, and are easily confused, but Marsh Warbler will tend to be greyer/colder toned above without the more rufous tones on the rump that are usually seen on Reed Warbler. The wings also appear slightly longer, typically with obvious pale tips to the primaries, and the legs are generally a paler pink colour.
It would also be unusual for Marsh Warblers to be in reedbed habitat (remeber than Reed Warblers can turn up in all sorts of habitat on migration though, so a similar bird seen away from reeds is not necessarily something else!). | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
