Many years ago I traipsed across inhospitable hot, dry bleak sand dunes to get a glimpse of this bird in the distance on a brackish bit of water on Minorca. My first sighting.

Now I benefit from their successful take-over of many parts of Britain. They are creeping north Where I live on the south coast they have been around for quite a long time, and thoroughly delightful they are too.

Little egrets are seen regularly in Lancashire now
