| | | Little Egrets in Scotland! :O Hi all, Today me and a friend were taking part in the Irvine Bay's Big Beach BioBlitz, to count all the species you can see in 24hrs, we were doing birds and when we were looking out to the shore a Little Egret flew in and landed! We saw it quite a few more times, and there definitely was only one.
Irvine is in North Ayrshire, in the West of Scotland and the only places I've ever seen Little Egrets was in Cliffe Pools RSPB Reserve in Kent and Otmoor RSPB Reserve in Oxfordshire, so any thoughts why it's so far north? |

The odd Little egret has tuned up else where in Scotland on a regular basis, but I can't for the life of me remember where. They are stunning birds!

| | | Re: Little Egrets in Scotland! :O They are certainly moving north. I have seen plenty on the northern Lancs coast, so I guess it's only a matter of time before they reach Scotland, if they haven't already.
Regards, Chris |

Regards, Chris | They have, but only in very small numbers. I don't know if they are nesting in southern Scotland? I'll have to check out the RSPB web site.
