Hi all,
On my bird table this morning was a starling-sized bird with reddy/orangey/brown head and shoulders. It had a yellow chin strap and black or very dark wings and tail. Medium length square tail. Speckled chest. It looked a bit like a song thrush but the colouring was wrong. It was the red/brown top half and the black wings and tail that really stood out.
Any thoughts? |

can you get a photo from your description we could all say different birds so many going through my mind at moment not least hybrid

Possibly a rather bright juvenile Blackbird? They can be quite rufous + rather speckly. The yellow chin strap doesn't really fit though- any chance of a photo if it reappears. |

I've only seen it once and It flew before I could get a pic. I'll keep an eye out. It didn't look like a juvenile blackbird to me but I could be wrong.

This be way of beam but could it be a juvenile Redstart changing to adult plumage? It is not unknown for Redstarts to visit gardens.

i dont think its a black bird /thrush /redwing etc we need a picture (yellow ) chin strap has thrown me chin strap is penguin  | | |
