| | Yellowe bird Hi, I'm new here. this morning there was a bright yellow bird having a bath, he then spent about half hour on top of the feeder grooming and then sat there in the sun. I went out and have just come back about 3 hours later to find it still here, now sitting on the niger feeder, can't tell if it ate any.
It is yellow with no apparent markings. Any ideas, could it be a canary, do they survive in wild?? It looks really healthy and is not scared of the other birds. any help in identifying appreciated. |

| | | Re: Yellowe bird Hi welcome to WAB ,
If it is totally yellow then it must be an escaped canary but there is a wild bird called a "yellow hammer" which has lots of yellow on it, so have a look on google images. As for surviving in the wild, it has found a food supply and may be in a loose flock with the other birds at the feeders so it probably has a good chance. However their bright colours do stand out to passing sparrowhawks. |

| | | Re: Yellowe bird I know I am no expert but if it isn't a siskin with a black cap and black on its wings (only bright yellow resident bird I can think of), then likely some form of canary. Without a photo or more information (relative size, beak shape, etc) I think identifying it will be difficult. |

| | | Re: Yellowe bird Put photos in forum images can't seem to get them on here. thanks for the replies, checked out yellowhammer, much more yellow than that so guess it must be a canary, just hope it doesn't attract attention of any passing sparrowhawk. If anybody can access the photos and confirm I'd be grateful |
