juvenile cuckoo resident in our garden

For the last 4 days we have been blessed with the presence of a juvenile cuckoo. Far from being secretive etc., it perches on the croquet hoops or boundary posts in our garden and watches while I weed the veggie bed. I can walk with my wheel barrow keeping a distance of about 6 yards without it flying off. After I leave the veggie bed, it flies onto it and searches for food. I am surprised at how low it flies except for when it roosts at night. I am also very surprised at how it seems to stay in the same area and not exploring other parts of the garden - in another part of the garden the other side of the house, the trees and bushes are alive with birds visiting the feeders and baths but our cuckoo has not yet ventured there.
In the Spring we often heard the sound of the male cuckoo which must be responsible for this young bird.
Please let me know what we can expect to see from this wonderful bird and does anyone have any idea as what sound/song it makes?
