Evening LC,
Well, one look at the thumbnail and I was going to say it's a young Moorhen. Something didn't look right though - too grey, so I looked to the second and it appears to be a mother and young Great Crested Grebe.

Take care, Jason | I would go down the same line Jason, but reckon photo 1 is a young Moorhen, and agree that the second shows an adult Great Crested Grebe with its youngster. Young GCGs are quite stripey, rather than the uniform colour of the young Moorhen. |

thanks people, the two photos were taken a couple hundred yards apart if that helps, as can be seen photo was a long way away!!, |

Thanks Jonners - I just assumed the youngster in the first photograph was the one by the adult GCG in the second and so the first must be the same youngster. Young birds aren't my strong point!
