puffins near london

hi, i was wondering where the nearset colony of puffins were near london.

Possible Bempton cliffs in Yorkshire.

Can't think of any on the east coast further south than that.

If you are going to see any this year you will need to hurry up they have finished breeding. There are good numbers on the sea at Bempton but they will soon start to move further out to sea.

Lundy must be closer than Skomer.

I would say the nearest breeding Puffins are in Dorset- Portland + possibly Durlston Head, but only a handful of pairs.

I meant in decent numbers, where sightings are guranteed. I think Skomer is the best option for someone in london - I live on the Eastern edge of G. London and Skomer was the place I went for them!

That said I had no idea they were present in Dorset! I knew there were other auks around Hampshire Dorset + IOW but had no idea puffins were that near.

Bempton has to be easier to access from London than Skomer, surely? And quicker. From Kings Cross it's about 5 hrs by car.
